The Mind That Builds Heaven or Hell

On the subconscious, desire, and the life we are here to live

In 2019, during a period of deep inner exploration, I read The Power of Your Subconscious Mind. I was not searching for another self help concept.

I was trying to understand something very personal: why we can know what we want and still feel unable to move toward it.


That question became the doorway into understanding the subconscious mind, and eventually into my own work with hypnosis.


What the subconscious mind actually does

Psychology and neuroscience show that a large part of our behavior, emotional reactions, and habitual responses operate outside of conscious awareness.


The subconscious mind stores learned beliefs, emotional memories, and internal rules about safety, love, and belonging.


This means that the mind is constantly shaping how we experience life, not only through what we think intentionally, but through patterns that run quietly in the background.


We often assume we are responding to reality. In truth, we are responding to our internal interpretation of it.



How the mind creates very different realities


This is where the idea of the mind creating heaven or hell becomes tangible.

Two people can live in the same circumstances and experience life completely differently. One experiences constant pressure, lack, or fear. The other experiences meaning, opportunity, or trust. The difference is not the external situation, but the inner landscape they are moving through.


A mind shaped by fear will look for threats. A mind shaped by lack will never feel satisfied. A mind shaped by trust will begin to notice support and possibility.

The subconscious mind does not judge these perspectives. It simply reinforces what it has learned to believe.



Why the mind is not the enemy


In many spiritual conversations, the mind is framed as something that must be silenced or overcome. In my experience, this creates unnecessary inner conflict.


The mind is not the enemy. It is a protective system that learned its strategies early on.

If it learned that love must be earned, it will push you to overperform. If it learned that control equals safety, it will resist uncertainty. If it learned that visibility is dangerous, it will keep you hidden.


These patterns are not flaws. They are outdated survival strategies.



Why conscious effort is often not enough


Many people try to change their lives through willpower alone. They set goals, repeat affirmations, and visualize outcomes, yet still feel blocked.


This usually points to a gap between conscious desire and subconscious belief.

You can consciously want freedom, connection, or expansion. But if the subconscious holds fear, guilt, or unworthiness, it will quietly apply the brakes.


This understanding was what led me deeper into subconscious work and hypnosis. Hypnosis offers a way to access these underlying belief structures gently, without force, and without bypassing emotional truth.



Desire is not the destination


Another insight that shaped my relationship with the subconscious mind is this: life is not about reaching an end point.


Desire is not a finish line. It is a direction.


Our desires point us toward new experiences and new stages of growth. They are invitations into a different chapter of life, not tasks to complete as quickly as possible.

I often compare this to a game. If every level were unlocked immediately and there were no challenges, there would be no curiosity or engagement. Growth comes from the process, not from skipping it.


The subconscious mind plays a key role here. It can either keep us repeating old levels or support us in stepping into new ones.



Listening instead of pushing


For the subconscious mind to become an ally, stillness is essential.

We live in constant mental stimulation. Noise, expectations, and comparison leave little space for inner listening. When the mind is always reacting, it cannot receive.


Listening to the heart and to deeper intuition requires pauses, quiet moments, and a willingness to slow down. This is where clarity begins and where subconscious patterns become visible.


How we listen is a topic of its own, but it always starts with creating space.



When the mind works with you


When the subconscious mind is met with awareness and compassion, it becomes one of the most supportive forces we have.

It can support healing, creativity, and aligned action. The same mind that once created resistance can become a source of trust and inner guidance.


One line from the book that stayed with me over the years is:


“As you think, so shall you experience.”

Not as a warning, but as an invitation.


An invitation to understand the mind.To befriend it.And to allow it to support the life your heart is moving toward.
